What is a linocut?

A linocut is a relief printmaking technique in which an image is carved into a sheet of linoleum. Ink is then rolled onto the carved surface and transferred onto paper or fabric.

How the technique works

Carving: Special carving tools are used to remove the areas of the linoleum that should remain unprinted. These carved-away sections appear white in the finished print.

Inking: Printing ink is applied with a roller so that it adheres only to the raised surfaces left after carving.

Printing: Paper or fabric is placed on top of the inked block, and the image is transferred by applying pressure or rubbing the back of the paper. The resulting print is a mirror image of the original carving.

Framing

For this print, I recommend float mounting in a dark oak or black frame with a white mat and museum-quality anti-reflective glass (Artglass).

I can offer this framing option for NOK 1,500, provided that the print can be collected in Drammen.
